Shelter Partners Success Stories

Below are pictures of SHS dogs and their new families in New Hampshire.  Some of the adoption day photos were taken by staff members at our partnering shelters and the other pictures are updates sent by the adopters themselves.

If you've adopted a SHS dog from a New Hampshire shelter and would like your update included on this page, please email it to Jennifer.

I am writing to say thanks for sending Dharma/Finesse to NH so that she could be a part of our family.  She is the most wonderful, sweet, laid-back love bug ever.  She gets along so well with Brody, Ruger and our (shelter) dog, Sammy.  They are all best buds.  We look forward to many happy years with Dharma adding sunshine to each day.

I thought you'd enjoy hearing that Rainey (who we have uniquely named "Shelby") is adjusting just fine!  She is the best pet I've ever owned and the kids all love her.  Here is her favorite place to lay.

I adopted one of your dogs that was brought to Nashua NH. I wanted you to know just how wonderful she is.  Her name at the shelter was Kassie, but we call her Kay. She is a joy to have around. It's hard to imagine someone parting with such a smart and loving creature by choice. I work in a nursing home in the activities department and Kay has spent the day working with me several times already. I want you to know she is much loved here in the north by most everyone she has met but most of all by my partner and myself.

On November 8th we adopted the sweetest, most loving "Alabama girl" formerly-known-as-Brunhilde.  We love her so much!  We also gave her a new name, Bailey.

Bailey gets along with Heather the cat, and the fact that our scaredy-cat Heather gets along with Bailey is a great compliment to Bailey and her gentle disposition.  Heather is 18 years old and until now, dislikes anyone outside of our immediate family.  I guess she recognizes Bailey as family.

We met Sweet Pea in July after she took a long ride from Columbiana to the humane society in New Hampshire. We walked into the kennel and immediately fell in love with her. She lives on 5 acres of land and loves all her freedom. Still quite the puppy...she keeps us on our toes 24/7. She loves our son and is the happiest when he comes home from college to visit. Thank you to everyone involved in her rescue. In the past two years we lost our best friends...a german shepard and a doberman. We didn't know if we could ever love again...Shelby rescued us and brings us so much joy. This picture is our first snow storm a couple of days ago. She isn't quite sure about the cold...but loves to chase the snowballs.

This is Bear (previously Snickers).  He was transported  from Shelby Humane Society to our local shelter in Stratham, NH. We adopted him in June of 2007. Bear has been a wonderful addition to our family. He loves to accompany us as we head to the beach, the mountains, or just for a walk around town. Because of his fantastic personality, everyone in the neighborhood knows and loves our Bear! Thank you for all you do to help the animals in need.

I am writing to thank your shelter and NH SPCA for sending some of your dogs to NH to adopt. My family and I have adopted Sammy, she is still listed on your website as being sent to NH.

Sammy is a great dog, when we adopted her we had no real clue on how she would be toward our dog we already have and toward us. Let me tell you Sammy is the best dog ever, we couldn't even change her name because we love everything about her just the way she is. We only had Sammy for a little over a week and we can't imagine her being without us for even a minute.

Thank you very much for transporting dogs to NH without this happening we would have never met Sammy.

This is Smokey, formerly known as Mickey, we adopted him from the Nashua Humane society and we absolutely adore him.  He is enjoying life in the country in New Hampshire; he has four acres of field to chase a ball, and he catches a frisbee pretty well too.  He will do anything to be loved and patted, and he was the star of his obedience class.  He is the nicest dog we have ever had.  He stays home with Mommy all day while she works and loves to sit on Daddy's lap in the recliner after breakfast, he really thinks he is a lap dog.  He loves to ride in the car and he is so well behaved we can take him for visits to Grandma's house on Sundays

While at the NH Humane Society Saturday, I was telling Loren how much I'd like to let the Shelby "angels" know how happy I was that they had sent along "Forrest" (now Freddy) last April. He was a Finnish Spitz/Lab cross from an unwanted litter according to the paperwork. She gave me your direct e-mail, and here I am - with photos!

He is probably the happiest of all the dogs we've owned/rescued. Other than a fetish with shoe innersoles, he's a good pup, too. I teach, and thus spend summers at our lakeside cabin in northern NH (10 miles from Canada). He's able to run there, as we're behind a locked gate without anyone around for miles. He wanders in the shallow water trying to catch pollywogs, rides in the kayak to visit friends (yes, he has a life vest), catches mice (?), plays in the mud....all the usual things an inquisitive pup does. He doesn't mind his crate at all, and stays there when we have to be out of the
house (the shoe thing, you know!).

I just wanted to thank you for sending him along, as well as for all the good work you do. Please let those who spend their time helping the pups at Shelby that they make a difference for many of us in New Hampshire.

We adopted Schnitzel about a month ago, we renamed him Bruin as to us he looked just like a baby bear when we first met him.  We adopted him from the Nashua human society on Ferry Road.  He is such a loving, smart, and energetic puppy.  He loves to go for long hikes in the NH mountains and just loves his back yard.  In addition to Bruin we also have two cats named Brock and Betty and they are becoming fast friends.  Bruin is also doing very well in his puppy training classes and has already mastered sit, stay, take it, leave it, paw, and come, like I said he is a very smart six month old puppy.  We want to thank you so very much for sending Bruin up here, he has truly completed our family.
