Adoption Fees

At Shelby Humane Society, we take in stray and surrendered animals free of charge. We care for those animals and provide them with shelter, food, and a bath. We spay and neuter our pets, provide them with the shots necessary to promote a long and happy life, test and treat them for heartworms, vaccinate them against rabies and give them a microchip to help them find their way home should they get lost.

Every SHS pet will be spayed or neutered prior to leaving our shelter. We have many altered animals that are available to go home the same day that their adoption is approved. Cats and dogs that have not been fixed will be scheduled for surgery the next business day and must be picked up from SHS at a later date

Adoption fees are as follows and cover the care that we have given your soon-to-be pet.

We Can Now Hold an Animal for You!
Once your application is approved, for $50 you can place a 24-hour hold on an adoptable dog or cat either by credit card, cash or check.  If you adopt that pet before close of the next business day, the $50 will be applied directly to his/her adoption fee. If you choose not to adopt that pet, the $50 automatically becomes a donation to SHS. Questions? Call (205)669-3916 x35.
