Obedience Classes



Shelby Humane Society now offers LOW-COST dog obedience classes! Classes last six weeks and teach basic manners including: sit, stay, down, leave it and leash etiquette.

Subsidized- $15
Dogs adopted from SHS-Free
Residents of Calera receive a $15 discount

Classes last 5 weeks from start date. Classes are held at a covered outdoors facility. Please dress appropriately and bring water for your dog.

Class Rules and Guidelines


Age Requirements - All dogs attending should be at least 4 months old at start of class.


Vaccinations - All participating pets are required to show proof of one rabies vaccine and at least one distemper/parvo vaccine, two are strongly recommended. Proof of vaccination must be presented prior to brining your dog to class.


Children - For their safety, children under age 8 are not permitted in class. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult (over 18).


Refunds - No refunds will be given. Please check your schedule before registering for class.


Cancellations and “Make-up” classes - Classes cancelled by the shelter will be rescheduled. Classes missed for any other reason will not be rescheduled. Make-up classes are not available. Please contact the trainer if you have a scheduling conflict. For your convenience, class cancellations will be recorded on our training class voicemail which can be checked by calling 205-447-6458.


Aggression - Aggression is serious and cannot be tolerated in a group setting. Any dog displaying aggressive tendencies will be excused from class and no refunds will be given. If you are unsure whether or not group classes are appropriate for your dog, please contact the trainer before registering for class.
