Quick Fix Quick Fix, a new spay and neuter initiative from Shelby Humane Society, will provide all Central Alabama citizens access to low-cost surgeries for their pets. The program, which officially launches on February 26, will offer discounted surgeries and clinic drop-off and pick-up for owned cats and dogs. Shelby Humane Society will work with Alabama Animal Alliance, the state’s first clinic dedicated entirely to spay/neuter, to carry out the Quick Fix surgeries. The program’s van will provide pet transport to the Montgomery clinic from various locations throughout Shelby County. Prices Spay/neuter surgeries will be provided for $15 each to Shelby County residents who prove assistance through any state or locally established public assistance program, or can show proof of eligibility for free or reduced school lunch programs. All other individuals will be charged the appropriate fee below plus a $5 transport fee per pet:
NOTE: If proof of current rabies is not provided, all participants must pay an additional $10 for the vaccine. Other Fees may apply to regular-priced surgeries:
If you are interested in learning more about Quick Fix or would like to enroll your pet in the program, please contact Whitney Roberts at quickfix@shelbyhumane.org or 205-643-Fixx(3499). Pick-up and Drop-off Locations We will be adding more locations throughout Shelby County, so please visit our site often to find a location convenient for you. You do not have to live in the city where pick-up is scheduled.
Quick Fix Partner Clinics Quick Fix Partner Clinics will provide a complimentary follow-up visit to all Quick Fix surgery participants. It is recommended that the animal see a vet for a follow-up visit within 7 to 10 days of surgery to ensure that everything is healing properly. Participants will receive a certificate at the time of pick-up that will give them the information to schedule their follow-up visit. The certificate must be brought to the vet’s office at the time of the appointment. The following clinics are Quick Fix Partner Clinics:
More About Quick Fix Currently, Shelby Humane Society is overburdened by the more than 6,300 animals it receives annually. Not only will Quick Fix help prevent hundreds of unwanted litters brought to the shelter, it will also lower the incidence of stray and homeless pets roaming local roads and neighborhoods. Every pet owner should consider sterilization for their cats and dogs. According to the Humane Society of the United States, spaying and neutering helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives by eliminating or reducing the incidence of a number of expensive and difficult to treat health problems. Each transport will carry a maximum of twenty-nine pets, and participation is limited to the pets of individuals who pre-register. Anyone who would like to learn about spay/neuter opportunities outside of Shelby County can contact Spay Alabama at 1-866-9-SPAYAL. |
