Pay: $12-$13 per hour

Shelby Humane is looking for a Medical Team Member to provide care for our dogs and cats and help them realize a positive outcome. Ideal candidates will have small animal medical experience, be organized, able to multi-task and interact professionally with prospective adopters, staff, and veterinarians.

Must be comfortable and confident in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Must be professional and able to collaborate with other departments within the shelter.

Must keep excellent records and manage the inventory and budget/finances of the medical department.
Responsibilities:
-
Provide and document animal care, medications received, treatments and concerns.
-
Obtain accurate vital signs on patients.
-
Observe animal behavior and health conditions and document.
-
Collect and prepare samples.
-
Assist intake staff with vaccinations and assessments.
-
Work with local veterinarians to treat animals that we deem are within our resources to treat.

Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner.

Maintain the cleanliness and inventory of the medical office.

Communicate professionally with staff, the veterinarians and the public.
Desired Education and Experience:
-
High School diploma and Certified Veterinary Tech degree, or related experience.

Flexible schedule including some weekends and holiday shifts on a rotating basis.

Knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling

Must have computer skills.
-
Must have the physical and mental capacity to preform in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
-
Responsible for feeding, cleaning, and caring for shelter animals.
-
Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the facility and grounds.
-
Complete daily cleaning routines, maintain assigned areas in a clean, organized, and professional manner.
-
Provide kennel enrichment and socialization for animals in assigned areas as time permits.
-
Follow Shelby Humane guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols.
-
Monitor the health of shelter animals; follow established procedures for sick and/or injured animals.
-
Monitor animals’ temperament/behavior.
-
Ensure animals receive daily exercise.
-
Communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, management, and the public.
-
Foster positive relationships with the public, volunteers, and staff while promoting our programs, policies, and philosophies.
-
Grooms and bathe cats and dogs.
-
Treat all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance.
-
Supervise and assist volunteers as needed.
-
Assist the Canine or Feline Leads with their duties and responsibilities.
-
Shelby Humane is open seven days a week including holidays. Kennel staff is required to work most weekends and all holidays.
Required Education, Experience & Knowledge
-
Must have a genuine interest in animals and their well-being.
-
Previous experience in customer service.
-
Must be diligent, detailed oriented, and a team player.
-
High School Diploma strongly preferred.
Working Environment
Possible exposure to infectious organisms, animal waste, allergens, chemical materials requiring OSHA Material Safety Datasheets, and potential hostile animals. The noise level is generally loud.
Physical Demands
