Pit Bulls Need Our Help – Let’s “Fix-A-Bull”

Pit Bulls and their mixes are among the most common breeds in animal shelters. Their
large litters—often 8 to 10 puppies—can overwhelm shelters, with many waiting months before adoption. Adult Pit Bulls tend to stay even longer, and sadly, they face some of the highest euthanasia rates nationwide.
We can change this. Shelby Humane is launching “Fix-A-Bull,” a spay/neuter program
focused on Pit Bulls and Pit mixes in Shelby County. Our goal is simple: stop the cycle of overbreeding and reduce the number of dogs entering shelters.
Here’s how it works:
• No income restrictions—everyone qualifies.
• Owners submit a photo as proof of breed.
• For a minimum $20 donation, each dog receives:
o Spay/neuter surgery
o Rabies vaccination
o Additional pain medicine
o Microchip
o Flea pill
o Round trip transportation for your pet to and from the clinic
Thanks to our partnership with Alabama Spay and Neuter Clinic (ASNC), discounted rates make this program possible. Every owner will also take home a small bag of dog food and pet care gifts when they pick up their pet.
This program is sponsored by Ken Jackson with The Remy Fund + Our Community Foundation for a Greater Birmingham. The impact is huge:
• One female Pit Bull can produce 14 puppies every year.
• In just six years, that can multiply to 67,000 puppies.
• By fixing 100 dogs, we’re preventing countless unwanted litters and saving
thousands of lives.
Join us to “Fix-A-Bull” and give Pit Bulls the brighter future they deserve. Call or text 205-243-9946 for more information.
This program is only availale while funds last
